That's ultimately why I've kept quiet on the topic.

The squad Mexico brought, regardless of if it was a mixture of A & B or just B, was stronger than ours. Certainly our fault for not bringing out #1's and most of our #2's but what can ya do?

THe Confed Cup was long and most had just ended their European season prior to that. A much needed break was in order.

The only positive I can find to the 5-0 outcome is: our squad that played Mexico now realize, Mexico isn't just some random opponent. Their's pride, honor and respect involved not to mention bragging rights. I think it really woke up some of the young players to what that series really means.

Obviously, Mexico's A/B team were, supposedly, after one match, stronger. But, if you look at the Cup it reminds me of one other tournament that happened 2 years ago called the 2007 Copa America.


In my story, US will be Argentina, and Mexico will be Brazil. Argentina went through the group stages, owning, Brazil did well in the group stages, in the knockout rounds, Argentina mauled everybody, Brazil barely got through Uruguay on PK's, yet here comes the final right? Argentina on red hot form should have won (like the US), yet they fell apart at the worst moment and lost 3-0.

If you get my story, then you see what I am talking about, while Mexico's A/B team were potentially stronger in the final, I believe overall in the tournament they weren't.




ALSO, I prefer the Gold Cup over just one match of glory. And it adds to the cabinet, unlike beating Mexico at the Azteca.

Mexico's team is stronger, they had more European based players in the final squad and more players with European experience, as for the subject of Gold Cup > Win at Azteca, as much as I wanted to win the Gold Cup the fact that this does not clinic a Confederations Cup birth dulls it down a little bit. We have never won at Azteca and this would seriously dent Mexico's chance at making the World Cup.

Pele, he's has 3 World Cup Rings. That right there beats it all.
