Official Colombian National Team Thread Empty vamanos muchachos!!

Post by Furnaccio Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:01 pm

looking forward to the friendly in Houston coming up shortly and more importantly our next set of do or die qualifier games!!

if we have a healthy, in form squad for the next 2 WCQ games, we may still have a shot of making it to South Africa.

    One game at a time!

these are 23 players that are good enough to make up the national team if we had to put up a final roster. there's probably two or three players that could be switched, but you get the point...

GK - David Ospina, Agustin Julio, Robinson Zapata

DEF - Juan Zuniga, Luis Perea, Cristian Zapata, Mario Yepes, Pablo Armero, Aquivaldo Mosquera, Juan Cuadrado, Jossimar Mosquera

MF - Freddy Guarin, Fabian Vargas, Vladimir Marin, Macnelly Torres, Juan Toja, Abel Aguilar, Carlos Sanchez

FW - Juan Pino, Hugo Rodallega, Wason Renteria, Radamel Falcao, Carlos Quintero

That's an impressive list of Columbian's.

Wilman Conde is my favorite of the list, for obvious reasons. He's a beast for Chicago.

he's a regular at steau along with dayro moreno (ST) and robinson zapata (GK), but they don't get much notice b/c they are in the romanian league.

they played in the group stages of the champion's league but were the bottom team of their group (Bayern munich, lyon and fiorentina were ahead of them) which didn't even allow them to go to the UEFA cup.

Toja should be a regular on the national team - he played very well in his game against brasil. but i guess politics is holding him back...

I agree, I would like to him play instead of Marin. I see Marin as a super sub. Also Dayro Moreno was downgraded to the second team of Steaua for discipline problems, so I don't know how much longer he will be there, also Steaua signs Jherson Cordoba another Colombian.

i wish humberto mendoza could get some notice outside of colombia. i think he's a solid defender and has the ability to nail some long free kicks which has been a huge weakness for us since we have no true FK specialist these days.

luis mosquera has always been a decent playmaker but i've only seen him play one other time for the national team and he scored on a penalty against peru, i think? it was a game we won 4-2 where rodagol had 2 goals...

i hope gio moreno and palomino do well - they both have bright futures.

as you can tell i am partial to the nacional boys!!

yeah I can see jaja, I like the Humberto Call, I wish Danny Aguilar had been called from Deportivo cali. I love the Fredy Montero and Teofilo Gutierrez pair. Also I'm optimistic about the John Viafara call. I hope he can get his old super kick. I wonder how Augustin Julio will play.

I couldn't go to the game because my friends bailed on me. So I didn't want to go to a game all alone.

I think the game was really good. I was impressed with our Colombian League players but I hope we do the real job against Venezuela in NY.

that sucks - i hope we fare well in NYC - we need to start picking up some good habits going into the last 4 games. the one thing we are lacking is a killer instinct.

we can't try to win games 1-0; even if we win the remaining games, we still need to improve our goal differential.

nevertheless i was impressed with jairo palomino - he was the only player trying to shoot from outside the 18. i don't think anyone on our A team even tries that.

luis mosquera was solid as our #10; i read mixed reviews about him on the BS message board. i think he's worthy of a few more opportunities - it's not like anyone on our team is playing out of this world anyway!

Yeah LFM is a good player, I think he need a few more caps to get used to it. I'm comfortable with Pino or MacNelly for now, Jairo Palomino played great, I think he should be called up against Ecuador, I still afraid that we can't score. Maybe its Lara's tactics that are not helping our scoring. I do hope We can massacre Venezuela in NY just so we can feel confident(the fans) this coming up against Ecuador.
